The New P&I Inspection System Will Take Effect from October, 2025
Supplementary updates on the new P&I regulations in Taiwan are as follows:
The Taiwan International Ports Corporation (TIPC) has now published a whitelist of 47 shipowner's insurance companies.
Effective October 15, 2025, all vessels entering or leaving Taiwanese ports must be insured by a company specified in the whitelist or one that meets the following credit ratings:
- Standard & Poor's BBB rating
- A.M. Best Company B++ rating
- Moody's Investors Service Baa2 rating
- Fitch Ratings BBB rating
※ If a vessel chooses to be insured by a company not on the whitelist but that meets the above credit ratings, relevant credit rating documentation must be provided to TIPC for verification.
If a vessel is insured by an insurance company other than those listed above, the Taiwan Maritime and Port Bureau (TMPB) will not be able to approve its port entry and departure procedures.
Additionally, for vessels that enter a port before October 15, 2025, but will depart after October 15, 2025, TIPC will require a compliant shipowner's insurance policy to be provided before departure.
